Before you share a document you often need certain words gone from view: names, project codenames, passwords, or anything sensitive that should not travel with the text.

Text Redactor blacks out the words you list and lets you pick how the redaction looks.

How to use Text Redactor

  1. List the words to redact, separated by commas.
  2. Pick a redaction style: a solid block, a bracketed label, or asterisks.
  3. Paste your text and copy the version with those words blacked out.

Use cases

Good to know

Text Redactor matches the words you list as whole words and replaces each with the style you choose: a solid block the length of the word, a bracketed REDACTED label, or asterisks. Matching is case-insensitive so capitalised forms are caught too. Everything runs in your browser, so the text is never uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

Does it match parts of longer words?

No. Listed words are matched as whole words, so a short word will not redact a longer word that merely contains it.

Which redaction styles can I choose?

A solid block sized to the word, a bracketed REDACTED label, or a run of asterisks.

Can the redacted text be recovered from the result?

No. The original characters are replaced, so the hidden words are not present in the output you copy.
